Just took this off of Clarity's site. I liked it and wanted to fill it out for my own future reflection.
1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Got a GPA I could be proud of. (3.7!)
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn't have any. Don't think I'll make any.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What cities/countries did you visit?
Montreal. Toronto. Victoria. Havana/Cuba.
6. What would you like to have in 2007 which you lacked in 2006?
Certainty about the immediate future. (specifically, my job choice.)
7. What date from 2006 will remain etched in your memory, and why?
May 31st. The day I told my ex I loved him. July 16th. The day he fucked everything up.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
My GPA. Knowing I could be a great student, with effort.
9. What was your biggest failure?
To be honest, I don't feel I had any big failures this year.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My plane ticket to Montreal. Good to go back after 3 years and really KNOW how much I've changed since 2003.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My mom, for ending her stressful corporate career. My best friend ("Load"), for continuing to be the most loyal friend I've ever had. My recent ex, for being the most thoughtful, true man to ever love me. My roommate, for being so sincerely, innocently genuine.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
The Mexican, briefly. For being silent on email and making me question my role in his life. My ex, for making me certain we could never "be", when he intentionally antagonizing me when he came home drunk. It was the catalyst to our break up. (July 16th, 2006.)
14. Where did most of your money go?
Liquor. Trip to Cuba.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to Cuba. Seeing my term grades.
16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
"Gasolina", Daddy Yankee.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: Happier or sadder? Thinner or fatter? Richer or poorer?
I'm happier (or at least, one year wiser and more certain.) I'm thinner. I'm richer, because I had a part-time job, and got some lucrative modeling jobs.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Read books for pleasure.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worry about my stupid, summer serving job. What a waste of energy when it was such a short gig, and I quit so remorselessly.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With mom and her partner in their sub-penthouse.
21. What was your favourite TV program?
No cable. Proud of that.
22. What was the best book you read?
"The World is Flat" - Thomas Friedman. It's actually the only book I think I've read this year.
23. What was your greatest musical discovery?
None. Maybe Rakim y Ken Y?
24. What did you want and get?
For the Croatian I met in Cuba to call me. To go on a holiday (Cuba.) To leave my old house and (depressed) roommate. To make it through my horrible 3rd term successfully.
25. What did you want and NOT get?
The Mexican's attention. A comfortable sexual relationship with my recent ex. (Maybe that's in store for 2007?) A sense of my future purpose?
26. What was your favorite film of this year?
Over the Hedge. Or, The Devil Wears Prada. (Haven't seen many movies this year.)
27. What did you do on your birthday?
Lay on the beach with ex boyfriend (perfect.) Walked along the ocean with him. (perfect.) Had dinner with him, celebrating our anniversary, and my birthday. (Beautiful sunset.) Went clubbing with the people closest to me. Received a beautiful nightie from my thoughtful roommate.
28. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Nothing. This survey has made me realize, 2006 was a fantastic year.
29. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Improving. Starting to dress according to what I want to impress upon people. (Impress literally, and also, represent to others who I feel I am.)
30. What kept you sane?
Ex boyfriend. Earplugs.
31. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Angelina Jolie. I knew she was amazing long before she was a "Hollywood IT girl." Putting social issues on the map makes her an incredibly inspiring celebrity.
32. What political issue stirred you the most?
Environmental policy in my own country. (moderate.) (Wow, I was shockingly apolitical and unaware in 2006.)
33. Whom did you miss?
My dad. I finally went through his paper stuff...letters mostly. It took me 8 years, and 6 straight hours...but I did it. And I miss the Mexican, for being the first man to challenge my convictions. (Beautiful bastard!)
34. Who was the best new person you met?
Kevin. Because he meant so much to my ex.... and showed me that even the most enviable people have complete weakness that they too struggle to overcome.
35. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
If I put in just a little more effort, the rewards may be exponential. (Hard work pays off?)
36. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is"
- Damien Rice, "The Blower's Daughter."
Listened to that to get over the Mexican. But in the end, I think that's my life's philosophy. "And so it is..." Such is life.
