I just watched a super-drama unfold at my work.
I was working all night alone. Two of my coworkers sat at the bar drinking all night. At the end of the night, after closing, there were about 8 "regulars" sitting at the bar. My co-workers said something about me (cute, inocuous little me;-) and my boss just pounced on them. He was like, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT! NO WHISPERING, NO DISCUSSION, NOTHING. STOP TALIKING!! I turned to talk to someone else and stayed quiet. One of the girls was so dumb, though. She just didn't get it. About 5 people were telling her to be quiet, "just let him be" (about the boss), just let it go.... and yet, she KEPT talking back. It was crazy.
I went home and realized 2 minutes later that I'd forgotten my keys. I went back, and as I came out of the bar, one of the regulars called me back and was like, "You're a sweetheart; don't worry about tonight, you'll be here tomorrow, she won't". Then I could hear more screaming inside the restaurant. The weird thing was that the next person to walk our the door was the girl who (I guess) had been saying some shit about me. She and I got along really well on our last shift, so I was surprised there was a problem at all. She came out of the restaurant near tears, but furious. I didn't think I should leave her, so I stayed and tried to remind her that our boss works 18 hour days right now. The man is EXHAUSTED. He is so reasonable, given his workload, and so good-natured that I tried to remind her that him yelling is not his personality 95% of the time. Her response: "I don't care!!" Pretty selfish. She won't be there tomorrow.
She's a disruption. I didn't have a problem with her until tonight. My boss is a really good guy, so if he's mad, it's time to be quiet and just let it be. She had him yelling at the top of his lungs, and several people were defending him. It was terrible.
I feel badly for that guy. He really is a very good guy. He's just worked beyond what any reasonable person can handle.
My boss gave me a glass of shiraz at the end of my shift. It's starting to make me drowsy, which is lovely. And, I made almost the most money I've made serving tonight. That's a great feeling.
